Taking euros out at Stansted (from an euro account)

Hi saving experts!

I'm travelling abroad from London and I'd like to take some euros out. I do own a euro bank account and card.

If I use one of these multiple currencies ATMs at Stansted airport, will they charge my account in euros or pounds?

Of course it would be better for me to be charged in euros, as no exchange fee is better than the bad exchange fee these ATMs surely apply.

Thanks and have a good day!

I haven't tried it either so I would treat those machines with extreme caution.

Otherwise just wait until you land. There is sure to be a Euro ATM in the arrivals area. I usually go to find one instead of hanging around the belt waiting for my luggage to turn up.

Do NOT attempt this. The Moneycorp ATM will convert the euros from your card into pounds, then back to euros again, both times at the most diabolical rates so it will cost you big time.

You can avoid Moneycorp's conversion rates in their ATMs only when using a GBP credit card or prepaid card. Use your card on arrival in the eurozone.

  • My arrival is not in the euro zone, is Poland, and I'd like to take euros out somewhere without charge, to change them on the street for zloty, probably with a better rate than an ATM.

I'm at Stansted at the moment

    Any ideas?

Apparently there are EUR ATMs in Warsaw. No idea if you can do a withdrawal without conversion, but you won't be in a worse position than you are now.

You may as well just withdraw zloty from a ATM with your euro card, depending what the fees are it's probably not much more than what you would lose on cash exchange rates.

Next time in London, I'm not certain but you should be able to withdraw euros directly with your card at a Raphael Bank multi-currency ATM. They are (or were) located at various train/tube stations.
