Hi Dose any one know, if my small LTD company (1 year old) was VAT registered from 1st of March, Can I claim back for any of the following on my first VAT return for the period prior to being VAT registered:

Training Courses
Small Tools used in various jobs
Rental of plant / Equipment
Business cards/Work clothing
Services like business phone line and accounting software.

Also am i rite in thinking that you can only claim back VAT on materials used in jobs for the period after i was VAT registered?

As although i paid the VAT when purchasing the materials I didn't charge the customer VAT on there invoice as I was not registered

thanks in advance

Assuming you have valid UK VAT invoices from the supplier, you can reclaim vat on your first VAT return for:-

    a. Goods bought that you still have in hand, i.e. unsold stocks, equipment, etc.

    b. Services bought within the six months prior to VAT registration.

No VAT claim for any goods you no longer have, i.e. things you've sold or scrapped, nor for anything that you don't have a valid UK vat invoice for.

That aside, you need to re-read. It's 'Does' and 'right'.

It would alarm me if I received business communication from you with such poor grammar.
