If I could afford it I would

The original retailer told me to go to Fitbit.

They can't replace something that they broke with something I can't use surely?

Again, it's like taking a dress back because it has a faulty hem and the shop saying "well there is none in a size 10 so here is a size 28"

Notwithstanding any other measures, Its probably worth posting your issue on their own forum to see if any other help arrives.

    Who was the original retailer?

You need to go back to them and say you are invoking your consumer rights and not using the manufacturers warranty.

Then follow the advice in post 3.

As for what Fitbit can do, you will need to look through their warranty conditions.

Firstly Fitbit advise you to contact them directly as do the retailer.
This short extract from MSE's Consumer Rights guide may help you in future:
    Know who's responsible

When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!

If a company fobs you off by saying "go to the maker instead", it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.

It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with it.
The rest of that article is well worth reading too. ;)
