Anyone own a Pashley?

Hi

I just bought a second-hand Pashley and the bike rack I borrowed to carry it home was too small to carry it.

Does anyone here own a Pashley and have a bike rack that it fits on that they could recommend? I don't want to have to put it inside the car again!

:)

I have an elephant bike which is a Pashley Ponto, but I have no need for a bike rack for it as it is only used for local, short distance, utility trips.

I have no idea what a Pashley is, and no interest in finding out, but surely you can just measure the bike itself then go to somewhere that sells a range of carriers and measure them so that you can choose one that it will fit onto. Does it need to be any more complicated than that?

Apparently, yes! I've tried to get the bike on three different racks now, all owned by friends, and it won't fit on any of them!

And my local Halfords only stock the three I've already tried.

    This is a Pashley: http://www.pashley.co.uk/bikes/bicycles/princess-classic.php

In what way won't it fit?

Too long? Too high? Tyres too thick?

Perhaps you need to explain your problem in such a way that those without a Pashley can better understand it.

Have you asked Pashley for their help and suggestions?

The arms of the bike rack are too close together. Because of the shape of the Pashley frame, the arms of the rack need to be quite wide apart to fit through the only parts of the frame that can be used. None of the ones I tried are wide enough to hold the bike.

I've emailed Pashley, still waiting for a reply. I telephoned Evans Cycles too and they only stock Saris Bones and Thule racks. Neither of them are wide enough. Halfords ditto.

You need one of these: False cross bar.

Both Saris and Thule sell something similar.

I don't know about a rack for it, but I used to have a Pashley, I loved it to bits! Enjoy your lovely bike.
