I want to contact my bank and store card provider to send me account details to check for PPI.

1) I have looked at the template letter provided on this website but it assumes you know your account numbers. Both of my accounts are closed and I do not have the account numbers. How should I proceed?

2) My bank loan was applied for online. I have read that it is harder to make PPI claims for online loans, as the terms and conditions are fully available- is this still the case or have there been successful claims.

Thanks in advanced for any help

  • 1) ask the lenders

    2) it's because you generally chose to tick the PPI box.

Mis-sale complaints are generally made about being sold incorrectly by a staff member. How did a staff member missell you an online loan?

So I can request account info with just the name and address?

Can the Plevin case not be used to claim in the case that the loan taken out online?

Plevin can be applied if applicable (i.e. the commission was above 50%). So, yes.

You'd have to find out if Plevin is applicable though. How will you know of commission was above 50%? Who would the commission have been paid to on insurance purchased online?

Not according to the FCA “It is unlikely you would have been told how much of your PPI payments were to cover commission charges, so if you have concerns you should think about making a complaint.

If you have not complained about PPI and want to complain about undisclosed high commission, you should consider:
whether you may also have been mis-sold PPI. Your provider will consider undisclosed high commission as part of a mis-selling complaint even if you don’t mention it.”

    The bank?

Initially, it was thought that own branded products where a commission does not technically exist would be exempt from Plevin. This was mainly due to the way the FCA treat other distribution channels retailing their own product. However, it was later confirmed that own brand products do have to consider it.
