I do 6 or 7 long haul return trips each year (my company always books me economy) and this is nowhere near enough to get me to silver status (but I upgrade a few times each year and this does it).
I get your point, but my post was (with respect to the OP's plight), highlighting that irrespective of status, if there is a service failure, passengers should be compensated equally.
Whether they had lounge access, extra baggage, free seat selection, fast track etc due to status....is irrelevant, as it could have been possible that a high status passenger was allocated the very same seat as the OP and s/he too would have paid a premium for flying in the pointy end, but would have had status benefits - but the seat would have still been broken!
The disappointing thing for the OP is that if she doesn't fly in premium cabins regularly, or worse still, if this was the first time, then I can certainly understand the disappointment, whereas for the regular traveller, it may not impact as much, but regardless, you would expect a decent amount of service recovery - sadly nowadays with BA, the OP will get 5-10000 Avios at best.
As for attaining gold and silver being out of the reach of everyone except 'regular' CW & First passengers, I have to disagree.
I have been Silver for a few years and Gold the past three with future flights booked to get me Gold into 2019, and this was achieved at relatively very little cost.
As an example, I am traveling to Tokyo in September with Qatar Airways from Brussels in Business for the sum of £530 return. This trip alone nets 560 Tier points - just 40 short of Silver and if anyone had the great BA Tallin deal which netted another 240 points - for the sum of around £300 - cheaper if not flying from the regions), plus the four required BA flights, then Silver can be cheaply attained.0 -
To be fair, I only said that gold was pretty much out of everyone except regular CW and first class passengers.dickydonkin wrote: »As for attaining gold and silver being out of the reach of everyone except 'regular' CW & First passengers, I have to disagree.
Silver is reached at 600 tier points but to reach gold you need 1500 and even with your example of the flights on Qatar Airways, you would need to do this flight 3 times in one collection year to reach gold and IMO, 3 business class flights to Tokyo in one year would qualify someone as a "regular CW and first class passenger"0 -

IMO, I wouldn't define three business class trips in one collection year as 'regular'.
YMMV:)0
