Asus laptop wifi keeps loosing connection

I have an Asus laptop X555L, a few months over a year old (out of warantee). It keeps loosing the wifi connection when using the built in wifi adaptor - Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter #2
To get round this I'm using a "802.11 USB Wireless LAN Card" and moved the wifi connection onto that.
Curiously the built in adapter is referred to as #2 and the USB as #3
I've tried deleting the built in wifi adapter from Device Manager and then reinstalling it, but it makes no odds.
This problem has existed on and off since I first got the Asus but has now got much worse. At one time it seemed to be temporarily fixed by re-booting the router! - but that now doesn't seem to help.
Any ideas?

Windows often does not install the fairly new, or latest whq drivers for devices and chipsets.
I rarely use wifi on my computer, use homeplugs instead, but 2 months ago my drivers were up to date, stable and possibly use the same drivers as you, but different version
Go into Drevice Manager > network adapters > Right click on Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter, select properties > Driver tab and
Driver date: 11/08/2016
Driver version:10.0.0.345

I had an older laptop that had a similar problem so I bought something like this.
Wirth a try if updating drivers fails.

Could it be power options allowing it to sleep?0
