Yet again a question concerning my son.
Can a work place ask for him to be drug tested?
Once again i think they are playing mind game with him works for family!
We have told him to get another job but he likes the work not the employers
sarah
p.s before anyone jumps, yes there is a good reason why he dosnt wanted to be tested and that a whole another post in it self.

Where does he work & in what capacity?
What does his contract say?nothing to see here, move along...0 -
I would think it depends on the contract he signed.
My OH works for an American compnay based in Uk and when he signed his contract he had to waive certain rights under british/european work law. His contract says that they may perform randon drug testing although they never have in 7 years.
Get your son to check his contract and maybe call FRANK - they may have some more advice regarding this."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye" - Miss Piggy0 -

They can, they need consent & have a good reason eg the work he's doing is safety critical0 -
thanks for the quick replys we are trying hubby and myself to say hard luck and get on with it along with we told you so.but at the end of the day we are his mum and dad and do worry.
He works in a scrap yard and drives a forklift and the cars in the yard,as he havent passed his car test yet.And as far as i know we never seen a contract from work although they proberly got one, he dyslexic so couldnt and wouldnt try to read it.Loving Life,Family,Work

Your son not reading his contract is no defence, he should have asked for it in another form etc
As for the nature of his role I can see why drug testing is necessary
He either !!!!es in the pot or leaves
If his reason is due to being it a positive guarentee Id maybe suggest coming clean if its just some dope, if its serious he maybe should resign as being sacked for being a junkie will not look good in future0 -
thanks again,
we are hoping that it 19 year old boy being a bit stupid and he is a follower rather than a leader.A bit on the slow side really
as i said in my first post if he is taking drugs that is a whole other posting and not the question i asked.
I will have a word with him tonight about contracts and get him to bring a copy home and i go though it with him.
thanks to ts_aly2000 that give us hope for him

Yep, we were all asked to go for drug tests when we were made permanent at one job I had a number of years ago as part of the medical. If you are in a position where you can cause harm or dangers to others if impaired then you should either not use any illegal substances during the working week or find a new job.0

There is a whole industry set up to counter the drug testing measures. Depending on the drugs used, some are out of your system within 24hrs, others can be detected months after. There are a number of products that will flush your system, and you can even buy clean urine.
Its one thing for a city trader doing a few lines of coke, to someone being on a building site high as a kite.
Safe bet is not to use drugs at all in the workplace.0 -
I wouldnt have a problem with being drugs tested, i dont have anything to hide,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20
