PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Hooray!! Exchange is done. Completion is nigh!
What is the first thing (or things) you would do or prioritise on the day you complete a property sale?
Obviously cracking open bubbly is high up there on my agenda, but what else?
Change the locks
Meter readings
Clean
Check batteries/install smoke alarm
Unpack the kettle....

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/mortgages/moving-house-checklist has a few useful things (getting less useful/urgent as you go down the list)
You want to sort out:
- Somewhere to sleep
- Something to eat (could be takeaway, or make sure you have something packed which can be made easily with utensils which you have packed in an easily accessible place)
- Some way to relax (tea/champagne in short term, a chair to sit on and browse the internet on your phone at minimum)
Anything else can be unpacked later.
Also, make sure that the kettle, the mugs, and the tea (and milk/sugar if applicable) are easily accessible. My parents made that mistake last time they moved, resulting in a frantic dig through the boxes which housed the contents of the pantry.0
