standyby mode: computer crashes when coming out of

hi, me again i'm afraid. basically, all of a sudden (since sunday) when i come out of standby mode on my laptop (lift the laptop screen in other words) i get a BSOD with just a gobbledygook error (fatal exception blah blah). i reinstalled Windows yesterday and i still get the same problem. currently, i have changed the power settings to 'Do Nothing' when closing the laptop lid but i really like standby because it conserves energy and stops the ac adapter/battery from getting too hot when i am not using the laptop. when i get the BSOD, i basically have to reboot the laptop each time. any ideas. perhaps it really is a hardware problem given that i have done a full reinstall. the laptop is about three and a half years old but it's in very good condition: I treat it very well. thanks again

The 'gobldeygook' is kinda important, either write it down. Or goto Start\Run and type in 'eventvwr', click 'System' in the box that pops up and look for a Red Circle with an white '!' exclamation mark in it, this will be the error that occured on your computer. Double click the entry and there should be a small box marked 'Description' with a url to click on. Click the url and it will take you to a Microsoft webpage listing possible causes of the problem you're facing.

If you're using Vista, then type 'event viewer' into the 'search bar' and do the same as above. Or follow the instructions here: http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/vista_event_viewer.htm

When you post back the 'gobledeygook' someone will be able to determine what's wrong hopefully.

when you say you reinstalled windows did you reinstall over the top of windows or did you format and install a fresh copy.

i used the recovery disk supplied by fujitsu and reinstalled over the top - but i assume this overwrites everything in the c:\windows directory and subdirectories. yes, sorry, i did NOT reformat the hard disk; i didn't think i needed to.

I frequently suffer a similar problem except my XP completely freezes after coming out of standby, and I have to reboot. Turned off so many start up progs and IE7 add-ins, but it still does it. Any ideas?

When I redeployed my fujitsu-siemens drive image, all it did was install over the top of the existing copy. I found it better to fdisk and redeploy that way, as at least everything was then gone and the only problems I would face were the ones evident in the fs image. I then took special care to watch what I installed, and checked the eventviewer at each stage to ensure there weren't any problems.

I tend not to have too many issues, though this maybe because I don't actually use the laptops that much For support and I have to say with fs it's seriously limited, there is http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/forum/viewforum.php?lng=english&f=20 it really is a case of 'users helping users' as it would seem that nobody at FS speaks english, that or they don't care. But then FS is really business orientated, it relies on you having an IT Department to run too in case of problems. It doesn't really cater for 'consumers' though it obviously sells to them.
