Creature in my chimney!

I have a creature stuck in a blocked up fire place in my bedroom.
My chimney doesn't have a cap and have only recently moved in so haven't got round to Fitting one.
I have removed the vent and it seems it's all been blocked with huge cement blocks and said creature is on top of those.
The only way out is knocking down the chimney breast...which has recently been plastered and painted.
I was planning to leave the poor thing die but it's been 5 days and it's still scratching about...
How long will it take..? Feeling like an awful human!! I've been sleeping in the lounge as I can't bare the sound of it scratching about

Perhaps call the RSPCA or other animal rescue charity?
Have you got a friend with a drone and camera that might give you an indication of what it is? It might be a nesting bird near the top but the noise is travelling down to where you can hear it.
Or Santa's still stuck up the chimney. He'll begin to shout.0 -
Nope it's definitely there behind the wall
I just can't get to it without knocking the chimney breast down!0 -
If the chimney top is at a normal height, it could only really be a bird or a squirrel in there. Neither will last long with no access to water, a few days at most. I would have thought if it's a squirrel that lowering something down there for it to climb up would be what the RSPCA or similar would do.0

I'm guessing it's a pigeon....it's been 5 days and it's still alive!0

It probably won't last much longer. At best there might be some pooled rainwater for it but without food it won't last.
It's really down to your conscience. Leave it to die, try to find an agency that will rescue it or have a handyman in to break through to the void and make good afterwards.0 -
5 days & rather than phone the rspca you wait & then post on here, you disgust meI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

He's probably peed off with the noise and wants help.0 -
If I call the rspca I will have to knock down the chimney breast to get it out. The likelihood is that I would die when released due to shock anyway.
Obviously I feel horrendous which is why I have been sleeping down stairs. I've been in tears all weekend but cannot get it out.
I imagine it's not the only creature to have fallen down as it's never had a cap fitted.0 -
You might not have to knock down the chimney breast. Find a tradesman with access to a core drill bit and an SDS drill.
A hole is easier to fix than a whole wall.Never Knowingly Understood.

Not trying to play on your conscience but, what a horrific way to go.....
I can pretty much echo what has already been said though. I'm hardly going to start criticising you as you're obviously upset enough as it is.
It could well be too late and it may die of shock (seems a pretty resilient !!!!!! though.)
As already said, there's always options.... Question is, how much would it play on your mind in the future? People will have a pop at you for leaving it (as has already happened in this thread.)
If you knock the side of your house down and it turns out to be a plauge (exaggeration) ridden rat or a diseased gull, I wonder if the same people would call you insane for going through that effort....?0
