Should I Switch?

So I've just had an energy meter fitted by Siemens on behalf of first utility for free. Thing is my contract is up tomorrow can I still switch or may they try and charge me for the installation as its so soon after.
You can apply to switch whenever you want.
Switches will take a minimum of 17 days from application up to possibly 5 weeks (and maybe even a bit longer for gas at the moment)
The question is, with a contract due to end tomorrow, why have you waited so long???
You could have applied 49-42 days ago and not suffered any early exit fees (if they even applied to the contract)
The issue is now, you will go onto the suppliers very expensive default tariff ...
(only option is to ring FU today and see if they can offer you a better tariff immediately, but if you plan to still switch supplier, ensure there are no early exit fees)0 -

Well I did a price comparison and was on a much cheaper tariff than the market could offer so didn't want it to end early, I didn't factor in the switching time! I also wanted a smart meter.
I'll have a look now.0 -
Problem with it not ending early is that if you had given the required notice within the time scale you would not be on a far more expensive tariff ( not your current tariff ) between now and the actual switch taking place at some time in the future .0

If you switch, the thing will likely stop working with your new supplier, making the installation useful for about the time it takes you to switch. Oopsie.
