Doesn't sound right to me. I'd have thought even the slightest brake pressure should be enough to clear the discs. What model of Mazda is it?0

As above.
It's not normal, not for a car doing 25k miles per year. Rears as said don't exert the same amount of pressure but it shouldn't need that much pressure to scrape of rust formed from just a few days max based on your mileage.
Sounds more like they are just degrading.0 -
