Mercedes Class B or Nissan Qashqai

Hello everyone,

The time has come to get rid of the Renault Scenic.
I'm now looking at getting either a Mercedes Class B or Nissan Qashqai.

Drove the Nissan and loved it, still to test drive the Mercedes. Looking at cars around 7 years old so 2010.

Anyone had any experience of the two and which do they suggest is the better car? Want something reliable, not too worried about MPG as I do very little mileage per year.

Personally, i''d run with the Qashqai. Go with a 1.5DCI, avoid the 1.6 petrol.

    Buy with FSH.

7 year old diesel for low mileage coukd be a lottery.

I had a B160 for 4 years and 50,000 miles. Never missed a beat, older tech, but reliable 8v petrol engine. Could get 50+ mpg on a run, close to 40 around town.

Comfy too and it would self park, not that I ever used it!

I'm on my second B class now - I absolutely love them. The inside layout is excellent - very spacious (we were replacing an estate with the original one and there is very little difference with what you can pack in) - lovely comfortable drive, fuel efficient.
The first car we got to 10 years with few problems and we are looking to have this one for as long.
We got the 3 year servicing and breakdown as part of the original deal. We have had a couple of tyre issues (roads around us are pretty poor)- as it does not have a spare wheel the car had to be taken on a low loader to Mercedes for a new tyre - I think I will keep up the Mercedes servicing (expensive) as this will keep up the free Mercedes recovery service.
My friend has the B class sport which has low profile tyres - she has regular problems with her tyres, so although the car looks great and sporty I would not touch one of them with a barge pole.
When buying the car originally was a big price difference when we looked around - Sunderland was considerably cheaper than our nearby Suffolk and Essex dealers - but the local dealers did come in to match the price reluctantly.

    Great car !

OP will be looking at first gen B class, which did at least have a skinny spare, no electric handbrake and no screen stuck on the dash as an afterthought!

All three of these issues immediately put me off having another.

The qashquai is a Renault based car, built on the Scenic/Megane platform.

I personally wouldn't recommend a Nissan-Renault to anyone unless it was a freebie, after my experience with the Note.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

We looked at those but ended up with a Ford Cmax as found later cars for the price. Had it 11 months now and it is a great car.
