Caravan Insurance quote problems

Hi all

Just purchased a caravan and have been attempting to insure same

Gone through the various compare sites and got quotes for E&L Vanguard there are four levels, 1, 2,3 & 4, level 2 seems to fit my circumstances

The quote via confused.com was £53.36 , clicked through the buy now button and then get a further questionaire (most if not all I have filled in for the quote)

The bizarre part is it requires you to fill in every item to be insure under contents and under equipment (I only entered a £1000 for each in the quote) how on earth can you list all the things you are going to take or use bar the obvious

So having filled in guesstimates to the value of £1000 each section as best I could, I then find the quote goes to £79.69

Is there any way around this madness

MSE suggests you can get a quote in 5 minutes, perhaps you can but not one that you can actually buy

What are you supposed to do ?

Thanks for the suggestion, just ran through a quote

They appear to be rather stringent but the quote came out at £105 so rather expensive

But thank you all the same

So a quote at ~ £80 where you have to list everything or one at £105 where you don't?

That was the bare bones quote, just as E&L Vanguard were, without buying it I can't tell if they want war and peace as well

But £105 is expensive compared to others

What are values of Caravan, caravan accessories and contents (some of which may be covered by home insurance so not needed)?

Where is the caravan stored? (Home, storage compound etc.,.)

New for old or 'market value' required?

Note E&L can / do have rather stringent security requirements that others may not.

Check out caravan forums for insurer experiences... Cheapest is not always best.

The Caravanwise policy isn't "bare bones", it's a 5* defaqto policy.

I strongly recommend you do a google search for Equinne and Livestock or search Moneysavingexpert as they have somewhat of a reputation.

There is a reason they are so much cheaper than other Insurers...

    Thanks for yours

Yes I am aware of all the criteria, I had already entered all that in the confused quote system, it gave a quote based on the information I entered, but when I went to purchase it they wanted the same details all over again only this time they wanted itemised lists of items of equipment and contents, clearly its impossible to list things you don't even know you will take and may change over time, whilst the basic items may be the same you get new things and get rid of the old

My point was more to do with how can a site quote an amount for cover, then up the price when you want to buy it, surely its not only misleading I would have thought its against trading practices

I had hoped others may have dealt with a more reliable insurer, and being MSE I also hoped it was keenly priced

In the same way as cheapest isn't always best, neither is the most expensive

I didn't say the policy was bare bones, I said after putting in the details for a quote (the bare bones quote) I cannot tell unless i go to buy the policy if they will then want war & peace like E&L

E&L's practices are clearly misleading but I can't tell what happens with caravanwise unless I buy their policy which is overpriced for my needs

If you can answer the questions in post #6 regarding the value of the caravan etc then you will probably get more relevant advice on insurers.

For example some insurers are expensive for high value caravans but cheap for caravans worth less than £3000.
