Is it easy to downgrade a current account?

I have a current acct with one of the main High Street banks for which I pay £15 a month, for various pleasures such as extremely poor customer service, break down cover, travel insurance etc. I don't need these extras any more & neither is it convenient to change banks at the moment.
Is it possible to ask them to downgrade my account so I don't have to pay a monthly fee or pay a lower one but can still use the following:
debit card
cheque
standing orders/direct debits
transfers between accounts
online banking
I have tried their website but am probably being thick as I couldn't find an answer that I understood.
My account is now always run in credit (thanks to this site)

:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

All the high street banks offer a free current account with all the facilities you require. Just look on the bank's website and find the name of their free account so that you know exactly what to ask for, then contact your bank and ask them to downgrade your premier account to that account.
You shouldn't need to change your account number, so you can keep your existing bank card, chequebook, online banking password, direct debits, etc. Some premier accounts include a free overdraft, so the bank may try to cancel the overdraft and ask you to re-apply once the account has been downgraded. If the overdraft is important to you, make it clear that you want to keep it.
