Just wondered if anyone uses old-style sheets and blankets on their beds and whether they're warmer than a duvet?

Yes, we have sheets and blankets rather than the standard duvet.
Guess it's more a case of what you are used to but I find that there are far more versatile that one big cover and you can vary your warmth/comfort easier. At the moment we have two blankets and a light patchwork cover on the bed which instantly get folded down with the current warm nights. If it gets too hot we push one blanket back as well and sleep with just one sheet & blanket, whereas with a quilt it's either on or off, no other choice.
Like I say it's all down to individual preference, personally I like to layer my nest0 -
i have duvets AND blankets - when it goes sub zero in winter i have even used both duvets at once0

Thanks! The duvet is always so cold so maybe I'll try blankets - do you use wool ones?0

Have a mixture of wool and synthetic ones, wool is much warmer so tend to use those in winter. Yes they are more expensive but given good care will last a lifetime.0

I think it's having layers that makes the difference, same as with clothes when it's cold. I don't like all blankets as I find them too heavy with a tendency to slide off the bed, but I do have a throw that I put over the duvet in winter if I get too cold which is plenty warm enough for me.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I use blankets in summer because the thinnest duvet available is too hot. I switched the 4.5 tog duvet for 3 blankets last week, now I'm down to 2. In winter I put blankets over a duvet so that I can put them on and off one at a time if I need to.0

We have a duvet on the bed, and a blanket on the sofa for when my poor health forces me to have a daytime lie-down.
The summer blanket is a lightweight synthetic one that was a freebie from I forget where, years ago; the winter blanket is huge, very heavy, and was crocheted by Mr LW's mum - sadly I never met her as she passed away before Mr LW and I met.
If it is a very cold midwinter night, the winter blanket migrates to the bed to augment the duvet.
I wouldn't honestly want sheets and blankets on the bed, as being disabled, bedmaking is much much easier with a duvet. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
We have sheets and blankets here. I personally think they are warmer than duvets. Now we only have a sheet and one blanket. I have bought them from dunelm, I doubt they are wool.0

Have a duvet but prefer blanket/sheet0

Hi everyone
I have a sheet with the duvet on top!! When it gets too warm I throw the duvet off and just use the sheet and in winter I put an extra throw on. I find it easier to wash sheets every week than keep taking the quilt cover off (it gets washed regularly as well, but not every week)
