Hi I am currently with Extra Energy and my fixed term ran out on 25th April so I was switched to the standard rate, I had an e mail around that time about the home warm discount which I was eligible for and I applied I thought I would just stay on the standard tariff to see if I got the £140 discount (as I had been with extra energy over a year and through winter so I was fairly owed it) before I looked at switching suppliers.

Today I have had the £140 credited to my extra energy account, so now I was going to do a comparison and switch if I switch are they able to take that £140 back? or will that be refunded to me like it would if I was in credit as normal?

Thanks

mark

Realised I put Home Warm Discount as title instead of Warm Home :)

No, once the money has been credited to your account, it will not be debited if you leave.

Different according to how you get WHD.

If you are in the core group and you get it automatically you get it from the energy company you were with on the qualifying date if they were part of the WHD scheme even if you have switched.

If you are in the broader group (you had to apply for it) you can keep it if you switch after you have received it. But if you switch before you have received it you lose it.

Here's what OVO says about it which is the clearest explanation I can find:
