My mother in law - who has been on AOL for at least 15 years - has just been informed that she will have to change her account email to TalkTalk - so I am assuming that AOL servers are being decommissioned ?
Anyone else, still on AOL needs to be aware !!!

Is AOL still in the TalkTalk family ?Happy to be proved wrong but I highly doubt AOL is closing their email service.
If so - why else would my MIL have been told to change email addresses ?
Just found https://help.aol.co.uk/articles/TalkTalk-Mail
Which implies that a new AOL account can still be opened - but mentions transferring from AOL to TT - I am confused ...0 -
Exactly, it has nothing to do with AOL servers. I suspect that she will be able to keep using the AOL email address if she wishes as AOL have never cancelled email accounts even if you changed to a different broadband provider.

You would have to confirm with TalkTalk exactly what their plans are.0 -

Evidently - TT were unable to send her bills to her AOL address0 -

Which is a TT problem, not an AOL problem or your MIL's problem. TT just want your MIL to change to make it easier for them so they don't have to fix their IT mess up.
Why doesn't she just get a Gmail account and use that for her TT account to receive bills? Or get a TT email account and only use it for bills? That way she should be able to retain her AOL email account if she wishes.0 -
She is 80 and finds it hard to understand why she has to change to TT - so gmail would be a NONOWhich is a TT problem, not an AOL problem or your MIL's problem. TT just want your MIL to change to make it easier for them so they don't have to fix their IT mess up.

anyway - its done now0 -
That was my point ... she shouldn't HAVE to change at all, except for the email address registered to her TT account. Even then that new email could probably be setup to forward emails to her AOL account.
Nevermind - if the problem's sorted, all well and good.

TT do not know howto deal with AOL customers it seems.
Had someone call me about a computer problem. TT had scrambled their AOL password because they "received" a dodgy email. They didnt even open the email it was deleted.
But when i called them to find out why they couldnt access their account i got pushed backwards and forwards between departments. Phone this number, no you need the other number.
One even told me to call the number i had just dialled. Eventually we got someone who said they scrambled the password and they reset it.
I have a lot of AOL email addresses

You can hack mine if you wish. They would need more than an AOL email to lose money though wont they?
With just an email address what can someone do? They wont know the security questions on my bank accounts. So not able to reset financial passwords?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
