Aviva >>> multicar discount >>> is it genuine?

Aviva is heavily promoting its Multi-car discount: "Save money when you insure more than 1 car on a single policy." It apparently offers up to 33% discount.

I started by placing two cars on the policy. Then I had my renewal for a third car. The premium had increased by 18% over the prior year so I was keen to reduce the cost.

Amazingly, the premium on the Multi-car policy was substantially greater than it was in the single car renewal notice. I asked the operator what had happened to the multi-car discount. He told me quite unsympathetically that, "it often just works out that way".

I think Aviva is being disingenuous and is offering discounts that it does not want to deliver.

Personally I look at multi-car policies every year when insurance need renewing, and not once has it been cheaper than buying seperate policies.

This year we paid just over £500 to insure the 3 cars that my wife and I own on 3 separate policies. The cheapest multi car quote I had was for well over £1000, and presumably wouldn't have allowed us to earn NCD for each vehicle.

I have gone mutli-car for the first time and it did offer a significant saving over the 4 individual policies it replaced. They key in our case was having a young driver as one of the four. Relatively speaking, she got the biggest discount. The three other cars were all under £180 each on separate plans. So, there was little scope for them to save much more.

With multi car policies each vehicle earns its own NCD.
