Getting rid of old electrical, charity option?

I've got a shed full of old screens, DVD players etc and I'm about to add a pc desktop to the pile. Long overdue a trip to the tip, but I'm wondering if there is a way of someone else benefitting?
With mobile phones you can send off for recycling and rather than accept cash you can nominate a charity?
Anything similar for this kind of thing?

British Heart Foundation will take electrical goods. They may even come to collect.

Not everything is still working? Would that make a difference to Bhf?
Some it will be relatively easy to salvage, there's a nice Samsung monitor that developed an issue with power which I'm sure is a relatively simple fix for those inclined, but I suspect charity shops don't have the time to refurb?

I doubt the charity shops would want non-working electricals. Gumtree / eBay / Freecycle etc might find them a home. Or the local recycling centre (tip) will segregate items for the right disposal route.

If you offer it on your local Freecycle or Freegle group there's a good chance that someone will take it.

I have no problems with charitable contributions. Do have an issue with the not uber wealthy giving their stuff away, so another Joe to turn up in a Merc, pack his car full, and advertise it on ebay or gumtree.

Even of the screen of faulty but has a working screen it boards, there will be someone out there who will give you cash/beer money.

My friend who drives a 15 year old car, got rid of some of his deceased mothers clothing. The chap did turn up in a new merc, "filled the car to the brim, he could hardly see out", and "came back later for more, with a trailer". He told my friend he sells the stuff on ebay. The items i the trailer were from other punters - apparently.

My friend did bleat how he felt gutted, and thought it was going to charity. Charity begin at home :)

Also personally had flyers through the door to collect for charity. They say 'we are in the area of xxx and collecting Monday morning phone us on 01234. Please do not leave your good out overnight.'. Apparently in the early hours of the morning a white van was travelling around picking up the bags and running off with the charities loot.

I got rid of some bunk bed on Freecycle a couple of years ago. Two men turned up in a big van, had them dismantled and in the van in about 15 minutes. Obviously dealers I would never put anything on there again, I would rather give it to the charity shop of take it to the tip.

Our local tips have a charity shop. So you know something will be going to charity rather than traders collecting it to sell for their own profit.

Picked up a few items also. Solid wood dining table for £10. Some silly person painted the legs. YUCK!

Stripped it back and planed smooth a coat of varnish and its a lovely table and looks like it cost a few £££

After some bad freecycle experiences i now only use it if i would otherwise have to pay the council to pick it up and dump it.

From memory I've only once regretted giving an item to someone suspecting it was being resold. Someone collected something yesterday and was very apologetic for being 20 minutes late which didn't bother me. I've met a lot of genuine people through freecycle.
