The home buyers survey with tsb was £650 compared to the £300 valuation with them. I went for the home buyers £650 which when spending £150,000 plus I wanted for peace of mind. And it showed up a few problems which meant I had a couple of thousand knocked off the price. So for me it was well worth while spending £350 more

Our mortgage with First Direct was fee-free, cheapest rates we could find AND included the home buyers survey... you just can't use a broker to get it.

We were actually able to talk to the surveyor and ask them to check a few specific things out. One big thing is that a lot of surveys won't include a view of inside the loft unless there is really easy access to it.

How long does a surveyor's report usually take to come back?
My last one took 3 weeks or so altogether. Lots of lies and false promises that it was posted/would be emailed, blah blah... My lender eventually spoke to him on his mobile (who admitted it hadn't been typed up yet) and it was there within a few days.

We had a structural engineer's report on a 15 year old house. We wanted to know if the structure was still all right and that nothing had moved.
