accident

Hiya, I have a motor accident claim going through at the moment including personal injury claim.
My lawyer/solicitor has asked for my national insurance number,SHOULD I GIVE IT AND WHY DO THEY NEED IT?

    It is needed because of a thing called the Compensation Recovery Unit. This is part of the DWP and are able to reclaim any benefits paid to you as a result of this accident from the insurers of the negligent party.

    They will be unable to negotiate or issue a settlement / cheque to you without a certificate from the CRU stating how much the DWP wants. So yes, you need to give it.
