Plumbing advice needed.

Chaps,

After spending 4 days this week having my bathroom re-fitted on the 4th day the plumber walked off the job never to be seen again, which no means we now have no toilet, basin, shower and he had cross threaded the bath waste so that wasn't usable until now. The only upside is I hadnt paid him a penny but im hundreds of £'s out as i had supplied all the tiles/adhesive which looks like stevie wonder has chucked the tiles up.

Anyway............im trying at least to get the basin working the plumbing is pictured here:

the tails for the tap are too short to reach the isolation valves so i was going to install a compression 15mm x 1/2" straight tap connector to give me a couple of inches to play with, hopefully thats ok.

the waste pipe to the bottom of the waste is approx 25cms so a normal trap is too short to connect the two together, this is where im struggling. Im trying to avoid having to buy a 3mts length of waste pipe and adhesive and pipe, also how can i find out if the existing pipe is push fit or not?

sorry to bombard you but the last few days have thrown me for a loop and i want to try and get some bits sorted

I would probably up and right angle from the isolation valves for neatness (but my soldering skills are OK) ;)

What type of trap are you using ? There are flexible pipes with compression fittings that could be used.

    Thanks for the reply.

That flexible waste pipe looks like it will do the job, im probably to use an s trap.

Re the isolation valves alas i dont have a blow torch and my fix is only going to be for a few weeks until we get a proper plumber round to do the job properly. My solution isnt elegant but do you see an issue with it?

    1. Tap connection
1a. Get a short length of 15mm copper pipe, two x 15mm compression elbows and two 15mm / 1/2" compression male "irons" (they are made of brass).
    1b. Cut 2 x 50mm lengths of the pipe, 1 x 150mm and 1 x 200mm length
1c. Fasten200mm length into hot (left hand) isolation valve. 150mm length into right hand (cold) valve.
1d. One compression elbow onto each pipe, facing to right.
1e. One 50mm length of pipe into other end of each compression elbow.
1f. One male iron onto each right facing piece of pipe.
1g. Attach flexible hoses to threaded ends of male irons.
Do all compression nuts up tight using a spanner held near the head end. Then another 1/2 turn with a spanner. You want it tight, but not so tight the olive crushes the pipe. With all new parts you shouldn't need sealant, but if you do I'd use Jetlube V2, but its relatively expensive. Alternative is to tighten each connection, then loosen and wrap PTFE tape around the olive then do up again.

    2. Waste.
Probably be OK with an adjustable waste like the McAlpine SP10W

No real problems with the water as a temp job as long as you don't put too much pressure on the flexies bringing them over which is why I suggested the right angle, a compression right angle in there would look so ugly if permanent - I know, been there, done it ;)

Maybe a pedestal trap would be neater for the waste, the flexi could be difficult getting out and vertical.

If you are now getting a 'proper' plumber in, what kind of plumber was the first guy?
Plumbing and tiling are two very different trades; a good plumber might be a terrible tiler.

Pipe and fittings are cheap as chips. Flexi pipes are a sign of a cowboy as anyone with any skill will hardpipe

I suspect there is more to his than meets the eye, plumbers don't spend 4 days then walk off without payment !

Solvent weld pipe is ever so slightly larger than the stuff used for push-fit & compression-fit.

Now, if you only need a few inches of 40mm solvent weld pipe, I'm going to have a bit left over from doing the kitchen. As long as it is grey you want.

He was recommended by a close friend, and is well thought of on facebook.

Sorry maybe i should have been clearer.

After spending 4 days tiling and placing the bathroom bits in place myself and my other half were far from happy with the state of the tiling, it you were an outsider you would laugh at the state of the job.

So day 5 he arrived we had a chat and he said "fair enough" he wasnt happy with the finish so he said "if i go now i wont charge you as i dont want a bad reputation"

Then he cleared up his tools and left but refused to connect the loo, shower, basin etc, which i offered to pay him for
