Out of Virgin media promotional period - can I phone and get a better deal?

Hi all,
Was paying around £25 a month for the basic virgin package, M tv, 50MB broadband and weekend calls. Now I'm out of the promotional period it's gone up to £45 which is steep for the services which they give me. Is it worth phoning them to try and get a new deal? I know that this will result in a new contract. My contract doesn't end until August, so will this have a bearing on what they would offer?
Thinking of just having broadband and maybe even getting arid of the phone line. Surely it would be better to get a new freeview arial for £50 and just use that?

Advice much appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

Yes as you have no leverage to leave without paying off contract .

Freeview depends upon what you want to watch .

You're contracted to whatever the contract says until August. You can't threaten to leave without paying a termination fee, so what are you going to use for leverage in any negotiation?

Do some research, there's generally no saving by removing the landline, they claim the broadband is discounted by having the landline and you lose that discount.

You still need landline to use broadband, so you could only save on any calls package you may have

If the OP is in a cabled area then you can go broadband only, but the last time I asked it was more expensive.

Have a look at the VM retention deals thread between now and August and see what other people are getting.

If you are in a cabled area (with the TV I assume you are?) then you may be able to get phone and broadband for around £22 - £24 if you do the line rental saver.

It just depends on who you speak to and whether you follow the excellent advice on the other thread.

The OP must be in a a cabled area as VM no longer offer services outside of them since closing down their 'National' service over two years ago.

Thanks, I thought they only closed to new customers, didn't realise existing ones had been shunted off.
