Smart TV Security?

Have recently bought a smart LG Tv which is very impressive TV wise.
Although it is internet ready,I have not yet gone online with it as I am worried about security. I would be using mainly streaming facilities and not internet banking!

Anybody have any ideas about security?

Does it have a camera and/or microphone in it?

If not I wouldn't worry too much. Going online will likely allow you to update the firmware which will improve the security and possibly functionality.

Devices like tv's and set top boxes seem to have quite poor security - my OH has a smart tv and sky q box which both got attacked causing them to regularly crash until i set up a fire walling rule blocking inbound connections. It looks like they can be exploited as proxy servers as almost all the connections were from china.

No known camera or mic--so should be OK?

I have used Now TV boxes for many years without any security problems

Would a similar streaming application on my TV being any less secure?
