Help please re selling car

I am selling my car through a specialist website and have received an email from someone wanting to buy it. The thing is they are asking lots of strange questions which have set alarm bells ringing. They said they want to do a data check and want mileage, reg no, chassis no, v5 document serial no and issue date. Currently the car has no MOT so I have been asked to get one and no doubt he will want the serial number from that too. I am certainly not selling to this person ....the only check I can think of is HPI and I am pretty sure they don't need the sort of information he is asking for. Does anyone know what he could be up to or am I being paranoid?

    slightly paranoid,

HPI can be done on just reg number

V5 serial number will allow them to check any MOT current or fail issue

mileage, well they may think its been clocked so can check via MOT etc

V5 issue date is normally not relevant, maybe they are thinking of cloning the car but having said that all they would need is V5 serial.

If they are offering a good price give them my email address and I will handle the enquiry side for you free

The chassis no would be the thing that gets me then. Why would they want that unless they were to fake some plates to clone it?!

They wanted the chassis number to confirm that the chassis number logged at HPI/DVLA matches the one stamped in the cars chassis when they get there to view the said car...
