Cancelling House Contents Insurance low refund.

My Daughter has just cancelled her house contents insurance which was £226.55 because she had accidental damage and high value items protected away from home, such as an Engagement ring and Camera Equipment.

She renewed on 26th February and cancelled on the 26th May so had 3 months cover. Deducting a £30 admin fee she only got back £57.39. The policy says there is no refund on added items which includes Legal, Specified Personal effects, and mobile phone. Have looked at her schedule each of these is underwritten by a different insurance company.

A refund of £57.39 seems very low though and is the the norm that add-ons are not refundable.

That's been the case with every policy I've had.

I suppose I've never really considered it as I have never cancelled a policy, but it is something to be wary of, but I guess unavoidable as the add-ons as seen here can add a lot to the policy cost.
