Costco Tyres dont go there

I went to Costco Tires as 2 of my tires needed replacement, they were cheap for a premium tyre so I thought I was getting a good deal.

Because of their policy they had to put the 2 new tires to the rear of the car.

When they took the tires that we thought were ok they noticed that the newish tyre on the rear had been eaten through due to an alignment issue, thus meaning I now had to purchase 3 tires, but as they are just tyre fitters they couldn't deal with the wheel alignment issue, ok fair enough I thought.

So naturally I thought the best thing to do now would to be to put the tyre that was just on the limit onto the wheel that was out of line, then get the alignment sorted and put on a new tyre...

"No sir the computer says no, you have to put the tires on the rear" even ordering a new tyre which would come in 3 days wouldn't help... "we have to put them on the rear".

So I've got a brand new tyre on a wheel that is seriously out of line... I'm really angry I can't book the car to have the wheels aligned till next Tuesday (250 miles) in which I now believe I'm going to part wear a brand new tyre.

My advice would always to be go to a proper tyre center and get it done properly, where they can deal with any problems properly and have the common sense to use their brain instead of saying... its company policy

    What a load ....

    https://www.costco.co.uk/view/content/tyreDisclaimer

    ... of TOSH !

I'd have just had the 2 (fitted wherever they insisted), driven my car out of the fitting bay into the car park, jacked it up and swapped them around into whatever arrangement I WANTED.

As for it's "BETTER" to lose the front end of a car rather than the rear, give me OVER steer ANY DAY, that I can control in my sleep without even thinking about it however unexpected it might be.

Having said that, I've never found Costco to have any tyres at a price that I can't get cheaper elsewhere, fitted & balanced - the lot just the same

  • Im not suprised at your tyre experience at costco. The branch i visited was dreadful and the tyre fitters are clearly lacking experience. I went for 2 tyres and they told me it would be about an hour and a half wait. I wondered around the store and then went back to be told they had rounded off all my wheel locking nuts and told me it wasnt their fault and it was the previous plce id had tyres fitted as they'd overtightened them. Then they told me they now couldnt touch my car until the nuts were removed by someone else. So i had to go to another tyre garage who laughed when i told them what had happened and professionally removed the nuts. I then went back to costco and complained to the store manager who after actually arguing with me gave me a £30 store voucher to cover the cost which cost me to have the locking nuts removed. Looking back now i wish id taken it further. I'll never use them again and really think the tyre fitters need training up properly. Oh and the store manager at the chester branch needs to go on a managment course.
  • To start with I know nothing about cars I know it travels on 4 wheels there’s seats, steering wheel, I know I have to pump up the tyres, fill it up with fuel, and top up water and oil, everything else is a great mystery. Anyway I’ve had these tyre for a while and needs replacing soon, had Christmas bonus so splashed out on 4 Michelin CrossClimate+, well today took the car for a MOT the car done less than 20 miles since the tyres where installed, Ford sends me a link treads range from 4.5mm - 8mm. Now I contact Michelin to find out tread depths for these tyres. They wanted photos of the tyre wall to make sure they are 4 matching tyres, I send the video link from garage to be told by Michelin they not CrossClimate tyres. They still want photos, now got to take the tyres back to get them put the right tyres on. Will update when it’s done

Have you looked at the tyre wall? It should have Mitchelin crossclimate written on

I buy all my tyres from costco, usually when there is money back deal

    No complaints, great service.

The alignment issue is probably down to bad driving by the OP

I can never understand this attitude towards things like cars, you have access to the internet so all the information you could possibly need about a car is available.
Considering cars are quite a big expenses for most people compared to other things don't you think it's a good idea to learn a bit about them so you can spot any problems and probably save money.

Never had a problem with costco and the tyre department.
  • If your worn tyre was on the limit and you didn’t want to put the new one on that corner because it’d wear it, surely that wear would take it below the limit?
