Sounds like a top up bursary given by the university itself. The amount varies at different universities.

Finances don't tend to be all sorted yet, they will contact you over the next month to arrange payment.

With my uni you get the bursary if you recieve the full maintenance grant. We dont recieve it until around Christmas and then its in 3 parts up till the end of the year. We get about £1000 as its to help us with our art materials (art degree).

You only get a bursary if you're entitled to, and have claimed a Maintenance Grant (if your parents/main income earners in your household earns below below 35K combined). If you haven't claimed a grant before the course begins, then you will be unable to claim it for the rest of your course.

You bring the entitlement letter to your university (this will be part of your student loan notification). The bursary you receive is based upon the amount of Maintenance Grant you receive, which is based on the income. (so the more your parents earn, the less money you get via grant & bursary). But if you're not entitled, this should mean your parents can afford to help you financially.

Every university has to offer a bursary of up to £500, but some go as high as £3000. You'll find that these are usually the top ranked universities (Oxford, Cambridge & Imperial), as they get the most funding.

There are usually extra bursary entitlements for art & tech students, as they are required to purchase more equipment. Also NHS & government funded courses.
