Vauxhall Meriva?

I'm thinking of buying a 1.4 auto Meriva to replace the Note, as it looks as if I can get a 2 year old one with lowish miles below half the new price, as they seem to lose money hand over fist- which is good when you want to buy :D).

I realise that I can make a special journey out to a vauxhall dealer to find this out by investigating myself, but does anyone know for sure:

Is the 1.4 engine vauxhall's woeful cambelt with self destructing idler arrangement, or a rapid wearing chain? (I've had vauxhalls before...)

Is the auto a "proper" torque converter, or some sort of clutch arrangement?

Where are they made?

What usually breaks? (apart from possibly setting on fire....)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
