I'm considering using a password manager, possibly lastpass. Can anyone help me with a couple of questions?
If the manager creates it's own secure password at the time of logging in, does this then become the ongoing official password for that site.
If so what happens if it fails in some way, how do you find out the new password to enable manual logging in?
Additionally if after using the app for a while, and I don't want to continue using it, how do I find out all the obscure passwords it's created over time.
Also if I run it on my tablet to start with, what happens if I want to log onto a site from my mobile. How will I know what the changed password is?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm sure an experienced user somewhere can help.
Regards

Yes, you can change the master password
Yes, you can view individual site passwords
Yes, you can export all passwords.
Best thing would be to start with the free version and see how you get on. Remember, all your passwords will be secured by the single master password. Make sure this is long and a good mix of characters. I would also recommend using 2 factor authentication.
But have a go with the trial for a few non-sensitive sites to see if it is for you before investing too much.0 -

Each install of Lastpass (at least the paid for version) with the same login ID synchronise the Vault.0 -
The one I use on my phone is 1Password, which I open using a fingerprint, saves typing in a long password every time. There is a free and paid version.0

You can always create a Folder structure within LastPass ie Banks, Forums, Online shops etc and direct the auto-generated passwords to them.
I often use the Password Generator manually to specify which components are used with how many characters for each site I want, although you can just create your own passwords too.
Just make sure that your Master Password is a blinder and that it actually means something to you so that you won't forget it, even though it is ( or should be) composed of letters, numbers and characters. At least 13 of them...preferably longer. Also 2-step verification is a must these days, sadly. :cool:0 -
I use lastpass for both business and personal and have generally found it to be very good. However i still do not trust it with my bank or financial passwords. Some things to remember
- make sure you configure it so that it times out and your master password has to be re-entered (do not leave it logged in otherwise anybody who can access your computer may get access to your passwords
- your master password is a single point of failure so spend a bit of time making sure that is long, strong, uses upper, lower, numerc and special characters ina way that is difficult for anyone to guess but easy for you to rememberIITYYHTBMAD0 -
Same as the last post, I don't trust Lastpass with my banking details.
...but... make sure you have both secured your Lastpass account by using their 2 factor authorisation, and also ensure that you can regain control of your LP account if you forget your login as LP recovery options are fairly basic.
