EDF Eco20:20 and switching

I want to switch energy suppliers but I'm with EDf and have standard gas and Eco20:20 electricity which is like economy 7. I have tried going on the comparison sites but they don't have the tariffs for eco 20:20 so I don't know how I can compare.
This is the first time I have tried to switch suppliers and I don't really know what I'm doing! Any advice?

I think last time this came up the consensus was that the eco20:20 package was totally unique to EDF and nobody else will touch it or can support their meter which IIRC was cheaper energy after 9pm? It's not Eco7 as such as the cheaper electricity was also from 9pm Friday to 7am Monday I believe.

You most certainly will probably end up having to have a new meter installed from whoever you want to move to.

Other suppliers will likely take you on as Single Rate. This means that when you submit meter readings, your peak and off peak would need to be added together to get the total energy you've consumed.

I'd suggest going on a comparison site and seeing if you think single rate will be cheaper than what you're paying for Eco20:20.

You could also ask EDF to bump you up the smart meter list, which might simplify your situation.

Contact your supplier and ask for a new electricity meter, single rate or E7 as you prefer :)

The reason you will not find Eco20:20 on any comparison site is that the metering is inconsistent with any other supplier/tariff.

More info on the EDF Eco20:20 tariff here

Edit: there should be no issue with you switching gas supplier :)

No, only a handful of suppliers do this even for those with a universally accepted E7 meter.

It may even be those suppliers will refuse to accept someone with an Eco20:20 meter

The best solution, as the OP has decided they wish to switch supplier, is to have a univerally accepted meter fitted so that (a) the OP can pick from the whole of market, (b) the OP can be sure the switch then goes ahead and (c) there will be no issues in future for chooising another supplier/tariff.

    :)

Unlikely at the moment that any supplier will take on a 20 20 meter on single rate, I don't think any supplier is implementing the restricted meters order ahead of time.

Doubt that 20 20 is economical with gas heating (assumption as op did not state) unless their weekend consumption is exceptional.

Punch total electric consumption into the comparison sites to see how it compares with current costs and wait until 1st September when you will be able to switch without having the metering changed.
