Can I varnish metal?

We've bought a cast metal bistro set from amazon for the garden, its painted black to look old, but was fairly cheap and I'm a bit concerned about it rusting within the next few months. Is there any type of paint on varnish or laquer (spelling?) for painted metal that we could give the set a coat of please?
This is the set:

Well it's aluminium so it isn't going to rust.
Personally I would see how it looks without treating it because I think anything you do is likely to make it worse not better0 -
cast aluminium
won't rust in the traditional sense.0 -

Hammerite is a well-known brand for metal paint. I've used it before on a rusty gate and it was very good.
Not sure if you'll need it on aluminium, but if you feel you want to paint your bistro set you could consider Hammerite.0 -

Hammerite is a great product in the right setting. I have used it for years.
But I seriously doubt you would get an acceptable result with it on something with as tight and complex a shape as the OP's table and chairs.0
