show storage under steps on staircase

Hi all

I watched a house makeover programme once where the house had a narrow hallway and no space to store shoes. So what the makeover team ended up doing was brilliant. They made draws under each step where the shoes could be stored. Im thinking about doing this for my home, as i too have a narrow hallway with no place to store shoes.

Anyone done this kind of work before or had it done. is the idea as good as it is practical in reality.

ive never seen it done myself but its obviously practical and should be an ok job.
i have seen a secret space behind a 3 step lifting panel, on a staircase. that was very clever. the chap used it for valuables etc..
