SpyBot SD Question

Do I need SpyBot SD running all the time in the background? Since I installed it, it now appears every time in the bottom right corner. If I need it fair enough, but if not is it not just slowing down my computer? MTIA.:o

I think you mean TeaTimer is running - it's part of SpyBot which alerts you if anything tries to change the registry. On mine, SpyBot itself is definitely not something which runs in the background, but TeaTimer is.
You don't need it, but if you don't have it running then anything which you install - good or bad, and whether you know it is happening or not - which tries to alter the registry won't be brought to your attention.0 -

Right, so on the balance of things, eg safety vs speed, is it better to leave running or switch off?{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -

Difficult to answer definitively.
I leave mine on all the time. Other people insist on having nothing running except the bare minimum (though personally, I can't see why unless you have a load of rubbish running - all those desktop enhancers and things, which are suspect anyway).
Most modern PCs can handle something like Teatimer with no trouble. If they are experiencing problems then it's best to look elsewhere for the cause
Personally, I'd advise leaving it on. It does a good job warning you when something wants to change the registry.0 -
Personally the only security software I have running all the time is my firewall (comodo) and antivirus app (NOD32). I think that running antispyware scans manually every so often is sufficient."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Choice is upto you... TeaTimer alerts you of registry changes (so also from potential undected malware), but this is only usefull if you know a littlebit about computers, if you're a newbie, you're probably going to allow everything deeming it useless.
It does slow the PC down. Personally, I think if you want the added protection layer, you rather have a BehaviourBlocker than TeaTimer. TeaTimer's too much of a hog IMO0 -
