New Homes Insurance - Leaking roof - worth pursuing or not?

House was built in 2008. I bought two years ago. It still has some New Homes Insurance cover left under the initial 10 year guarantee with Premier Guarantee.
When I bought the house there was significant water staining on a bedroom ceiling - directly under the flat-roofed dormer on the floor below. The stains looked old. The vendor said it was a historic problem that had been fixed (of course...).
I had a leak detection done on the central heating - that was fine - and a roofer came out to check the roof for me and couldn't find any issues. So I then bought the house and repainted the ceiling.
After 12 months and heavy storms the ceiling stained again with water. A different roofer came back and did some extra leading/ sealing on the sides of the dormer. At the time he said it was a 'shoddy roof job' with minimum of overlap on felt & tiles etc. It cost me £900.
I was aware that I perhaps could have made a claim with the Premier Guarantee, but the excess was £1000, so I didn't bother.
Another year on and the roof is leaking again. Roofer came back and is really stumped - says it may be problems with heavy rain pooling on the flat roof and getting in somehow, but it would be another big job to strip it all back and re-roof & re-lead.
The Premier Guarantee for structural defects runs out in March 2018. Is there any point me trying to pursue a claim with them for a bigger job at this stage, or will I be wasting my time?
Will the fact that I've had work done without telling them invalidate the insurance?

See the policy wording to see if you did invalidate the cover by doing your own repairs.
There seems nothing to lose if you make a claim (but your time if it's rejected).
Only you know how valuable your time is and whether or not pursuing a claim will be worth wasting it.0
