Samsung Tumble Dryer

I wonder if I can get views on this? I bought a Samsung heat pump tumble dryer for my new kitchen a couple of months ago. I've been scrupulous about cleaning the filters and emptying the condensing container.

I realised recently that I had not cleaned the mesh grid behind the heat exchanger filter, which it was recommended be cleaned once a month. I consulted the instruction booklet and it said this could be done with a vacuum cleaner. I began to do this, then realised to my horror that the suction from the vacuum cleaner had bent a number of the fins and tubes on this grid. I stopped immediately, but the damage had been done.

An engineer advises me that the entire bottom of the dryer will need to be replaced at a cost of £200. Samsung inform me that as I damaged the dryer while cleaning it, the warranty is not valid. I have looked thoroughly through the instruction booklet and there are no warnings or specific instructions with regard to using a vacuum cleaner to clean the heat exchanger. If there had been any, I would certainly have heeded them! I am devastated that I've damaged the dryer in this way.

Do I have any hope of convincing Samsung to carry out this repair under my warranty?

Probably not, because suction won't have bent the fins - the end of the vacuum could. How bent are the fins? It's quite likely that you could just carry on using it as normal.

Thanks, they are pretty bent, as well as the tubes(?) that run horizontally across. Having said that, not all of them are bent, probably about 1/3. I have run a couple of loads since without a problem, but I'm worried about lint building up behind the bent fins, or there being a fire hazard. I didn't push the vacuum cleaner against them though...?

If you didn't push the cleaner against them, I would argue that they were already bent; might be worth telling them such - worth a punt!
