I am not sure where to post this so if it is the wrong section can you advise where to put it, thanks.
I purchased a new home february last year. Home report stated it was a band D property when it was actually a Band E. I wasnt aware i could appeal the banding until around xmas time when i found out the other 3 properties in the street were a band D. I filled out the online appeal form and heard back within a few weeks to say i was outwith the 6 month period for appeals. I pushed and managed to get them to look at the property banding, this was in January. I heard back last week that they are going to reduce my banding from E to D, a saving of £500 per year. Now my question is will this be backdated to the date i purchased the house? If it is will it be paid to me or deducted off this years bill?

We done this a few years ago now.
We went from E to D, Glasgow Council.
Reduction of over £300 per year and we had been in the house 5 years (newbuild) so I had overpaid by over £1800
I was offered if I wanted to pay nothing for the next 2 years due to the overpayment but I decided to have the full refund paid into my bank instead!
And yes, this will be backdated to when you bought the house.
In your case, as you may have only overpaid around £500 it is likely they will just deduct this off this years payments due.
I have an appeal in for my new house, moved in 2 years ago and still waiting!0 -
It is backdated to when the house was first built, AFAIK. I managed to get the band of my first flat knocked down from F to E when I bought it in 2003, and the previous owners received a nice refund backdated to when they had bought it from the developers.0
