Thanks BatGirl! I have another question on this - apologies if this is the wrong place to ask. I have a full time job and I pay tax and NI through PAYE on my salary. I've been doing mystery shopping, surveys and cashback in my free time for the past 3 months and I make a maximum of £80-£100 a month - which is a lot less than £4k a year. Given this, what should I do? How do I inform the tax office? How do I get an exemption certificate? Am I even eligible for exemption since I'm already a taxpayer? Would really appreciate your feedback because I read that I have to declare myself self-employed within 3 months of starting mystery shopping and I have just 7 days left till 3 mon ths is up!
I think you should add your haircut savings money to your total but only if you actually put the money you saved into your savings account or wherever your savings go. It's easy to count things like that and spend it on something else! I know- I do it all the time.
i'm really sorry i don't know the answers to your questions. I would ring the tax office and ask them but don't stress too much about the 3 months deadlin I think it s a bit flexible, because so many people don't realise you have to declare myst shopping.
Sorry I'm no help
Batgirl
Ps Still don't know whether to count hair, I did have the money saved for it and have kepot what I haven't spent on it in my account but don't know if its cheating ( well I do kind of think its cheating but feel I have no hope this month if I dont' cheat! Or at least use flexible rules)
