You obviously think I m telling porkies when I say I have never found one smart meter tampered/bypassed in the ten years that I have seen them in operation working for British Gas and I have seen upteeen thousand.

Like non-digital meters this argument is just going round and round.

Nobody is saying you are 'telling porkies'. The point, well made by Meter Man, is the principle remains the same whether 'dumb' pre-pay or smart credit.

If someone wants to steal electricity they will. The 'stupid' thief with a smart meter may get caught first time, but as soon as people wise up the rate of detection and prosecution will fall. This doesn't mean that energy theft will decrease, it just means the desperate and the professional will find other ways to do it.

As we've discussed in other threads, the 'other ways' are likely to pose a far greater risk to the health and safety of the thieving customer, and to professionals like Meter Man.

You live in a dream world of you how you think the world works...
...its all lost in repaying the National Grid who have produced the energy.

Gosh, you're right. I've been living in a dream world where National Grid just transport energy, rather than producing it like you say.

I see you sucking up to meterman all the time..hes not a "professional ".. like me he is an unskilled bloke whos had enough training to do the job..no more no less.. My job is harder and more varied than a meter fitters..The principle does not remain the same in that Smart meters will mostly stop the free energy bonanza circulating around the UK.

No sucking up involved. I respect what MeterMan is saying because he presents a balanced argument supported by verifiable facts.

He has had training to carry out electrical installation work, so will have a qualification in the subject he is talking about, and as part of that training will have been taught how to apply some lateral thinking and keep an open mind in relation to the things he will come across in his day to day work. If he assumes things, he will always assume on the side of safety, until he has proven to his satisfaction the facts of the situation.

These are the kind of qualities you need to be able to see that whether a meter is smart or not makes no difference to whether a determined or desperate thief will obtain electricity (or gas) without paying for it.

As to your point about whether he is a professional or not, he does something, he gets paid for it, he's a professional.

Unless the smart meter programme is now so out of control they now have amateurs fitting them ;)

    Quoted post removed.

Again, it has nothing to do with sucking up, creeping, or being childish. There are quite a few points I would disagree with MeterMan on, but I respect his right to express opinions and respect the fact he is willing to put forward a balanced argument.

Unfortunately House Martin it looks like you and I will never agree. So lets just leave it there.
