Sorry, Scatty, I didn't mean my post to be critical, only my experience of having 2 kittens at a time, as we work full-time and we worried that one on his/her own would get lonely. You obviously have a very close bond with your kitten already - he is a lucky little fellow!

That's okay :) I'm grateful for any advice I can get. He's such a sweetheart and I don't want him to suffer so I'll keep an eye out.

    I think I'm the lucky one :)

We adopted two brothers in October. They were 15 weeks at the time - now 10 months! I insisted on two because we both work full time and they're house cats so it was important to have company and stimulation. My Mom's cats were introduced a few months apart (boys from different litters) and don't particularly get on as adults. Not sure how it'll work out for our two. A family member has a single indoor cat and that cat is very clingy/possessive of her; I suspect it's partly that cat's temperament but it's worth watching for signs and maybe put a Feliway diffuser in early.

We have so many toys my OH has a fit every time I bring something new home. I can't help it. :o The favourite is "Laser Rat" who no longer has a tail. It's one of those battery powered ones that scoots around a bit when they attack it, or you can flick it to just point a laser from the nose. I did buy them various treat-toys but these aren't that popular. Bouncy balls are good as long as they're big enough; Pets at Home and the like do two packs of translucent spikey ones. They also like sleeping and hunting any moths/bugs that find their way into the apartment. :D

We also have 5 scratching posts/cat trees - the latest being over 2 metres tall weighing 65kg! (RHR Quality on Amazon, found the main tree cheaper on Cat Tree UK). We found that the cheaper (circa £40-50) ones just weren't up to much as our boys are already quite heavy (they aren't small cats, but they're also a bit tubby and losing weight slowly :o). You can get good-enough posts on eBay to start with and you can even DIY them if you want. Try to get a tall enough and sturdy post for your boy to scratch full height - they love this! The taller cat tree is definitely giving our boys more confidence to climb and jump; they always used to hesitate to jump down from say the worktop.

We started off feeding Whiskas pouches and James Well Beloved biscuits, but recently moved to AATU biscuits (only seen them in Pets at Home) and Feringa/Animonda Carny tins (from Zooplus - well worth using these guys as they are pretty cheap to begin with, good selection, plus lots of discounts. Also the cheapest place I've found for Feliway).

We've had trouble with one of the boys littering outside of the tray. We don't know for sure what started it and a vet check showed everything was fine. We had those hooded litter trays and a combination of removing the hoods, even more frequent visits from the litter-fairy, and moving the trays away from the soiled carpet (covering that with furniture once cleaned) seemed to have resolved the issue. They recommend one tray per cat plus an extra. I can thoroughly recommend a poo-bin; we got a Litter Champ and it makes such a difference to the smell of the flat.

Sorry that turned into rather an essay. Congratulations on your fluffy ginger boy :)
