I wonder if anybody can offer some constructive advice. I've had an alliance and leicester current/ premier account for the last 3 years. I decided to take all my money out of it and then TRY to close the account. To cut a long story short i wrote a cheque for £98 for my son's swimming which his club had at the beginning of sept. All of my money ws out of the account on 26/09/2007, then my sons club decide to cash the cheque on the 28th after having it for a period of time. Now as i don't use the account as my regular account i forgot about the cheque. This morning i open a nice letter from a and l telling me i have no funds and that i've also incurred a £25 charge on top. I spoke to the bank on the phone stating that i'm willing to pay the £98 asap, but the £25 imo isn't justifiable or proportionate. I asked if my account could be frozen as they've refused to close it as there is an outstanding amount. Again i was told no, and that after 5 days would receive another letter stating that i owe another £50. I've never ever been overdrawn with them and don't have an overdraft facility, i payed the £123 today from another bank account but have been told that it could take up to 4 days for this to transfer. What do i do?

Accept the fact that you have made a mistake.
Pay up and put in a claim for'illegal' bank charges.
You then sit back until the end of the OFT case and hope the verdict goes your way.0 -
Had this problem with my bank last week , went on holiday and a DD came out while I was away, I was basically fobbed off over the phone, I was told that I would have to wait until after the OFT case to see if I could take any further action.
But since I’m not one to give money away !! Went into my local branch with the letter I had been sent, explained to them what had happened and they said they would cancel any charges! Result!!
My advice is to go to the bank and speak face to face.0
