I am looking to booking a short stay at the lakes soon.
What are the best websites to book accommodation in the Lakes? If possible we prefer a venue with leisure facility or passes to use.
Also what are other good places to stay in the Lakes? We used to stay at Ambleside (found Windermere too congested). Its been a few years since we last been but could do with a break there again.

I don't know about websites but as I live in Cumbria I can think of the following hotels with leisure facilities which are in or just outside the lakes:
Low Wood Bay hotel which is between Windermere and Ambleside, it was undergoing refurbishment and various parts are reopening during the summer.
Castle Green hotel which is on the edge of Kendal.
North Lakes Hotel & Spa which is on the edge of Penrith and just off the M6.
Castle Inn, Bassenthwaite which is near Keswick.
Riverside Hotel which is in Kendal next to the river.0 -
We've been to the Ambleside salutation hotel a couple of times (a best Western) and have really liked it. Good central location with parking, pool is nice and we've had a free room upgrade both times, although both with midweek out of season.0

I normally use Booking.com or Airbnb - love Airbnb actually but in the Lake District you might find it a bit more difficult to find places which have got facilities. Could be worth a look though!0

Also just seen holidaycottages.co.uk mentioned in another thread. This looks quite good too!0

If you are on Facebook then have a search for 'Breaks in the Lakes' they have some excellent offers and recommendations - many with leisure access too
My favourite place to stay in The Lakes is Armathwaite Hall0 -
Have you looked at easy-breaks.comLife is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.0
