Most jewellers will do this for you. Usually free of charge.

Yes, I've had a ring cut off at a jewellers- long ago so can't remember if I paid, but I think not. The whole hand had swollen but since the ring now needed to be repaired(!) I had it enlarged anyway.

    A&E don't do "Pre emergency"

Yes they do if it's a case of 'likely to be the start of compartment syndrome' - like they operate for appendicitis before it ruptures.

To clarify, medical emergency means immediate life/limb/digit saving surgery.

When I broke my wrist my doctor removed it using the thread method.

    The ring not my wrist

Mine became difficult to remove, some years ago,so I removed it with some difficulty and washing up liquid) and acquired my husband's ring.

Last year, his became loose , so I went back to wearing mine again.

You may find this happens too (I'm 68).

Your post prompted me to try mine and it is rather tight, though it comes off fairly easily. My fingers are a little puffy, so if they don't go back to normal, I'll be borrowing a ring again.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Same as you, as I aged I got a bit bigger and my wedding ring became very tight. My local jeweler had a handy gadget that managed to cut it off, then they added to it to make it slightly larger and totally not noticeable and I still wear it comfortably today.

    Jewelers it is.

OK...I've tried to remove the ring with washing up liquid, no luck, then Vaseline, no luck. Then I tried the wind up thin ribbon method by myself, also my friend tried to do it for me....even by holding hand aloft for ten mins first, then with an ice pack for 5 mins...plus the ribbon method.

Then tried by pulling any loose knuckle skin back towards my palm and pulling the ring towards the end of my finger. That seemed to be working but the widest part of my knuckle seemed to be just too boney!!

Had to stop then as my poor finger is so sore☹️

Going to try the dental floss winding method tomorrow. If that doesn't work I'll start calling jewellers to find one that can cut the ring off!

Honestly I wouldn't bother with the floss. If your knuckle has swollen up over the years then nothing is going to get the ring past it, you'll only make your finger even more sore and swollen.

Don't chose one that insists on sending items away for attention or you may have an unwanted holiday.:)

H Samuel used to insert watch batteries, but now want several times the old price and want to send the watch away.
