Ring too tight.....help!

My wedding ring won't come off my finger...it's always been quite tight as my knuckle has enlarged as I've aged, and the ring section of my finger has always had a sort of narrow "waist". It's been fine for many years.
However about a month ago my finger began to get sore, start to swell. Long story short......I think the ring needs cutting off....here's the question....where to go to get it cut off??
Seems too trivial for A&E or the fire brigade and presumably jewellers don't provide this service!!
Anyone know please?

If it's hurting and swelling, it's affecting the circulation.
I'd try and keep the swelling down with cold compresses, try a local proper jeweller first and if they can't deal with it immediately, get myself down A&E pretty sharpish, before it became a medical emergency.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

have you tried washing up liquid or butter/ oil to loosen the ring. It might help.0

Wind it off using dental floss? There is bound to be a video on YouTube.
<edit> seems like someone beat me to it in the video above - but I'd recommend floss rather than the thicker tape they used.0 -
I cut my aunts wedding ring off using an ordinary pair of sidecutters.0

You can do the same thing, but without the need for any ribbon. All you need to do is instead of just pulling the ring toward the end of the finger, also pull the skin back under the ring toward the hand. It's the way the skin 'piles up' in front of the ring that prevents it coming off, so pulling the skin backwards releases the ring.0 -

After a sporting injury, which made my finger swell, I went to a jewellers to get the ring cut off my finger. They made no charge to cut the ring.
When the swelling went down, I went back to the same jewellers to get the ring enlarged.
Try your local jewellers.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Give blood, save a life. 0 -
Most jewellers will do this for you. Usually free of charge.0
