Offer verbally agreed but Vendor then accepts another offer

I finally found a shared ownership house I wanted to go for and viewed on Friday night. The Vendor said there had been no other others at this point.

I rang him early Saturday to make my offer of the asking price and he was happy. My mortgage adviser sent my AIP over to the Housing Association today and was told the Vendor had put forward another buyer and can only put forward one.

This was obviously really disappointing for me and I was wondering if anyone had heard of/experienced similar?

    Until completion, the vendor can take offers and sell to whoever they want. (slightly different in Scotland)

    Before jumping to too many conclusions, have a chat with the seller.

    For example, I guess it could be an 'old buyer' who has since dropped out - but nobody told the HA.
