Ford Focus Mk1 Power steering pipe?
Hi guys
I recenlty had problem with power stering on my car, I since found out it was the power steering pump that needed replacing, ive done that but its still slightly leaking and I beleive its the pipe that runs from pump to the steerinf rack.
Can anyone advise if I have to get this part from ford only as ive been quoted £190 from them is this correct the pump already cost me £160.
Could I use a secondhand pipe or buy from ebay?
Thanks in advance

You can use a second hand part or get one from Ebay. Make sure you get new washers/olives for the unions if they use them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

You could buy a second hand pipe but it could be a false economy. This appears to be a common fault on the mk1 focus so a second hand pipe may fail as well. From your previous post the leaking pipe may have led to failure of the pump. Not sure saving £100 on a second hand part is such a saving if it results in failure of your new £160 pump plus labour to do the job again.
Of course if you are handy with tools and doing it yourself it may be worth the risk. But no garage will give a guarantee on used or cheap parts provided by the owner.0 -
The pipe was probably the original fault. The failed pump was because you failed to check the fluid and repair the pipe until it had taken the pump out. It was making a noise to warn you and yet you kept driving it?
Just think of all that swarf sitting in the steering rack eating away at the seals. And get pumped around the system into your replacement pump.
The problem with pressurised pipe is that it may not seal once its been removed and then refitted.
Only takes a small mismatch to cause another leak.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
