How much to pay for kitchen install?

We have been refurbishing our house and mostly have done everything diy where possible.
My other half's brother has been Giving a helping hand over a few weekends to install our kitchen and other jobs like boxing in and skirting.
Overall he has done 5 good solid days work in his free time.
We want to give him some money to say thanks.
Due to spiralling costs we have nothing left in the pot but that's not his fault and we still want to give him a fair amount as we couldn't have done everything as quickly without his help.
We have asked him how much he would like to be paid for the work done but has given no indication and wants to leave that up to ourselves to decide.
I have money saved for my maternity leave and have said to their half that we can give £400-500 from that.
Would that seem reasonable?
I don't want his brother and family to think we are being tight, and appreciate everything he has done for us.

£100 a day is probably a bit tight as a payment even on mates rates, but is it is all you have not a lot you can do about that.
Will there not be opportunities to give up some of your time to help him at some point?0 -
Depends on the size of the kitchen and the complexity of the install. The area you live is also a factor.
I recently purchased a kitchen for my new home and got a handy man type chap in to install (he does kitchen installs quite a bit), my house is not standard construction / square. It took two weeks labour and cost £1300.YNWA

Not complex. My other half was assisting with the install, so they have done it over 2 weekends together. We removed the kitchen totally beforehand, and had it decorated so it was an empty space before install took place.
They are brothers so often help each other out and don't expect anything for it. We want to pay this time as its time taken out of his weekends to help us out. Its a gift to say thanks rather than a job he will be invoicing for as such. Which is why I thought £100 a day would hopefully leave us not looking tight as that's quite a bit more than take home pay per day for my other half.
Maybe we should look at increasing it so I dont come across as tight.0 -
Four man days for £400 to a family / friend would seem reasonable to me, possibly round up to £500 if you are worried about coming across as tight (or if they were long days?) but I think you are in a the ball park.YNWA

Kitchen size wise - its an L shape base run of 9 600mm units with 1 corner, along with 5 wall cabinets above, no corner. Its a pre assembled german style kitchen, so not the type they have had to assemble cabinets for.0

if already doing mutual help for each other out then a chunk on top is fine,
A days take home rate will be plenty.
If he was bringing special skills to the job maybe a bit more0 -
Thanks all. Will discuss later on with other half when I see him.0
