Car insurance - can you haggle?

My insurance is up for renewal (with Admiral). Ive just done a search on confused.com and I can get the equivalent insurance for £100 cheaper than Admiral!
Am I able to haggle with them or would I be wasting my time? (Im not very good at haggling.
)
Thanks

If your not good at haggling pay up or goto the cheaper insurer.
Otherwise phone and have a bit of a banter with them, Watched Monty Python Life of Brian. Its not worth 2 shekels....Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
What you do is phone Admiral renewals and tell them you have found an insurance quote for £100 pounds less than your renewal quote. Admiral will then tell you if they can match it/beat it/or not budge on their renewal quote. When you have Admiral's response you can then decide to stay with them or go to the other insurance company. My insurance is up for renewal (with Admiral). It's always worth it to ask. In fact if you decided to move insurance provider when you phone Admiral to tell them you don't want to renew with them they will ask why, you tell them about the better quote, and they quite often adjust their renewal offer.0 -
It's not really haggling. I'm with Admiral and last year's conversation was honestly just:
Admiral: How can we help?
Me: I've had my renewal through for £x but I've looked only and got quotes for £y. Can you match that?
Admiral: [tapped some keys] I can reduce your price to £z [was just a couple of quid more than online prices]
Me: Great, thanks
They drop their prices straight away - you don't have to talk to them much. It's not like haggling with Sky.

I've had the same experience as pinkteapot the last 5 years, whilst also renewing with Admiral (still with them).
Every year the default renewal cost is X (ridiculously high) - I go online get a much cheaper quote Y, usually from the very same Admiral... Ring them up, ask they match Y, they end up discounting it a bit less than the comparison renewal quote I got.
Friendly Canadian call centre as well if I remember right for the Renewals team!0 -
Great - thanks guys - Ill phone them tomorrow morning!

Wow - just came off the phone from them and they beat the cheapest quote I got by £5!! Good start to the day!

Count me in with the gang. I've been with Admiral for years and years. Every single year their renewal quote is totally uncompetitive, but after I get better quotes from a price comparison site, I call Admiral and they either beat it or come close enough to not be worthwhile switching. It's a bit frustrating to have to do this dance every year, but the end result is that I get to stay with the devil I know AND pay a competitive premium.0
